      In the face of complex contemporary social context, increasingly, it is made present in the pedagogical discourse the terms cultural diversity and multiculturalism. On the other hand, given the polysemy involving the terms, we realize that in some cases, these speeches have taken a central role in the academic debate without any theoretical studies regarding their different proposals. This fact puts numerous educational projects on a truly important issue: What multiculturalism approach to adopt? What propose different thinkers in the area of multicultural education? And in the context of physical education, which the contributions of this theoretical and political field? These are some questions that this article discusses from a literature review, also describing the best adequacy of the so-called critical multiculturalism to educational projects concerned with the acceptance and recognition of contextually people and groups marked by difference conditions.       Diante do complexo contexto social contemporâneo, cada vez mais, faz-se presente no discurso pedagógico os termos diversidade cultural e multiculturalismo. Por outro lado, além da polissemia que os envolve, estes discursos têm assumido certa centralidade no debate acadêmico sem qualquer aprofundamento teórico no que tange suas diferentes propostas. O fato expõe um problema deveras importante: Qual abordagem de multiculturalismo adotar? O que propõem diferentes pensadores sobre a educação multicultural? E no âmbito da Educação Física, quais as contribuições desse campo teórico-político? Este artigo discute essas questões, apontando o chamado multiculturalismo crítico como vertente mais adequada para os projetos pedagógicos preocupados com a aceitação e reconhecimento de pessoas e grupos marcados por condições de diferença.
