      The article focuses on facilitated sense-making (FSM) and presents the results of a study aimed at increasing engagement of patients' family members by implementing FSM in cardiothoracic intensive care unit (ICU) and at measuring the effect of FSM on family members' anxiety levels. It also hopes to assess for differences between sexes or races in anxiety levels before and after FSM and emphasizes the nurses' opportunity to reduce the anxiety experienced by family members of ICU patients.
