      The utilization of student employees at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, was studied by means of a task analysis and survey instrument developed in-house. The tasks students performed and the amount of time expanded at each task were identified. The various tasks were then ranked in priority order and weighted numerically relative to their importance in the effective operation of the library. Following this an allocation formula was developed to provide the same proportional dollar amount to fund each task regardless of the total dollars allocated each fiscal year. The study also provided an objective basis for reallocating resources from less essential to more essential tasks.
