Here are some basic guidelines to keep your child safe in an automobile. Any infant younger than 1 or less than 20 pounds should be strapped into a rear-facing car seat. For toddlers weighing 20 to 40 pounds, you should move on to a forward-facing car safety seat. top safety experts recommend using a booster seat until the age of 8. And though it may seem excessive to some parents, experts say kids should be banned from the front seat until they're 13.
