      The article describes the use of the MacArthur Competencee Assessment Tool for Clinical Research (MacCAT-CR) to measure the capacity to research in a small sample of emergency department (ED) patients with moderate to severe pain. Topics discussed include a prospective cross-sectional study on a convenience sample of patients presented to an inner city adult ED between May 2012 and August 2012 and findings that pain had no significant effect on the performance of MacCAT-CR subscales.
