Patients' perception of adverse effects of breast radiation therapy

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou nežádoucích účinků ozařování prsu u pacientek s karcinomem prsu. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak pacientky vnímají nežádoucí účinky spojené s radioterapií, a jak tyto účinky ovlivňují jejich každodenní život. Teoretická část se věnuje charakteristice karcinomu prsu, možnostem léčby se zaměřením na radioterapii a jejím možným akutním a pozdním nežádoucím účinkům. Praktická část analyzuje pět případových studií pacientek, které podstoupily hypofrakcionovanou radioterapii ambulantní formou. U všech pacientek se nežádoucí účinky projevily v druhé polovině léčby, přičemž nejčastěji šlo o zarudnutí, svědění a pálení v oblasti prsu. U některých pacientek se vyskytlo mokvání kůže, omezení pohyblivosti horní končetiny a únava. Jedna z pacientek zaznamenala vliv léčby na intimní život. Výsledky ukazují, že i přes motivaci a dobrý psychický stav pacientek byly nežádoucí účinky vnímány jako omezující v běžném životě. Diskuse porovnává zjištění s aktuální odbornou literaturou a reflektuje souvislosti mezi teorií a praxí.
This bachelor thesis addresses the issue of adverse effects of breast radiation therapy in patients with breast cancer. The aim of the thesis was to find out how patients perceive the adverse effects associated with radiotherapy and how these effects influence their everyday lives. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of breast cancer, treatment options with an emphasis on radiotherapy, and its possible acute and late adverse effects. The practical part analyzes five case studies of patients who underwent hypofractionated outpatient radiotherapy. In all patients, adverse effects appeared in the second half of the treatment, most commonly including redness, itching, and burning in the breast area. Some patients experienced skin weeping, limited mobility of the upper limb, and fatigue. One patient reported an impact of the treatment on her intimate life. The results show that despite the patients' motivation and good psychological condition, the adverse effects were perceived as limiting in daily life. The discussion compares the findings with current scientific literature and reflects the connections between theory and practice.
