Clean, safe and efficient energy for Europe : Impact assessment of non-nuclear energy projects implemented under the Fourth Framework Programme

This publication is an executive summary of the main results of a major impact assessment of the non nuclear research and demonstration energy projects from the Fourth Framework Programme (1994 - 1998). It examines their overall impact in different fields (energy RTD strategy, rational use of energy, renewable energies and fossil fuels) in terms of the technologies developed, and in protecting the environment and creating a sustainable economy, as well as other socio-economic effects, such as employment and education. Its main results can be linked to the actual energy policies which aim at reducing greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions, increasing energy supply security, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the use of renewable energy, as well as enhancing the competitiveness of European industry and improving the quality of life both within the EU and globally
