This evaluation explores the effectiveness of the Managing Emotions in Autism (MEA) Group, an online intervention for autistic young people and their parents/carers. Facilitated by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the North of England. The MEA Group aims to improve Emotion Regulation (ER) skills and reduce risk related behaviours, such as self-harm and suicidal ideation, through a supportive, community-focused environment. Using a mixed-methods design, data were collected from crisis contacts, clinician-rated suicide risk, and post-intervention service involvement to assess changes in risk levels and service demands. Results showed a reduction in clinician-rated suicide risk and significant reduction in crisis contacts. The group reduced the demand on the service with 35% (N=6) of participants requiring no further CAMHS involvement after attending the group. Qualitative feedback from participants and trusted adults highlighted the group's accessibility, positive community atmosphere, and usefulness in addressing emotional challenges. Findings would suggest the MEA Group shows promise as an accessible, impactful intervention, supporting ER and reducing service reliance for autistic young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
