نبذة مختصرة : Objectives: to compare the frequency of at all gestational ages, the frequency of the type of childbirth in different chronological ages and relating the frequency of type of childbirth with gestational and the chronological ages of the women attended at the Hospital Gimirim of Poço Fundo-MG, Brazil, in the years 2006-2010. Method: it is a quantitative, exploratory, comparative, cross-sectional, and retrospective study. Data were obtained through analysis of the data recorded in the register book of births from the Sector of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Hospital Gimirim of Poço Fundo-MG, Brazil, in the years 2006-2010. The data from 100% (795) of the women were analyzed, didactically divided into three groups: adolescents (10 to 19 years), adults (20 to 34 years) and women with advanced fertile age (> or = 35 years old), after the research project was approved by the Ethics Committee Research of the Escola de Enfermagem Wenceslau Braz, with embodied Opinion nº 611/11. Results: with 99% of reliability, as the gestational age increases, the type of childbirth tends to be through cesarean section; there is no statistical relation between the type of childbirth and the chronological age. Conclusion: there is relationship between the type of childbirth and the gestational age and between gestational and chronological ages, but there is no statistical relationship between the type of childbirth and the chronological age.
