PRAIEIRA INSURRECTION IN THE CITY OF AREIA-PB: COOPERATION OF THE COMMANDERS OF THE NATIONAL GUARD AND LOCAL ELITES: cooperação dos comandantes da guarda nacional e elites locais ; Insurreição praieira na cidade de Areia-PB: cooperação dos comandantes da guarda nacional e elites locais

The Praieira insurrection, which took place in 1848, was the last of the cycles of liberal revolts that took place in the Brazilian Empire. In this article, we will reflect on the participation and support of the rebels coming from Pernambuco, by members of the local elite of city of Areia, in the province of Paraíba, especially the officers/commanders of the National Guard. Many of these characters were supporters of the Liberal Party. What can be seen is that the quarrels that divided Liberals and Conservatives in Pernambuco were felt in the province of Paraíba, with the then-bachelor president João Antonio de Vasconcellos having the task of repressing the rebels. Coincidentally, two years after the insurrection, the Guard was reformulated by Law n. 609 of September 19, 1850, which intuited greater control over the posts in the institution. ; A insurreição Praieira, ocorrida em 1848, foi a última dos ciclos das revoltas liberais que ocorreram no Império brasileiro. Neste artigo faremos uma reflexão sobre a participação e apoio aos rebelados vindos de Pernambuco, por parte de integrantes da elite local da cidade de Areia, na província da Paraíba, especialmente os oficiais/comandantes da Guarda Nacional. Muitos desses personagens eram adeptos do Partido Liberal. O que se pode perceber é que, as querelas que dividiam Liberais e Conservadores em Pernambuco, foram sentidas na província paraibana, cabendo ao então presidente bacharel João Antonio de Vasconcellos a tarefa de reprimir os revoltosos. Coincidentemente, dois anos após a insurreição, a Guarda foi reformulada pela Lei n. 609 de 19 de setembro de 1850 que intuiu exercer um maior controle sobre os postos na instituição.
