The present study aims to identify the political meanings, the religious and the identity meanings assigned to the monumental buildings and the registrations on the institutional ground of “Praça dos Girassóis” (Sunflower Square), in Palmas, TO. For that, the discussions are centered on the field of cultural geography and the categories of landscape and territory. Thus, a qualitative approach is used in the interpretation of the data collected, using fieldwork as a research methodology, carried out between 2019 and early 2020. In this sense, the monumental buildings and the institutional ground symbols of the Square are described; then, its location elements, the spatial distribution, the monumental scale and the creator are identified. In the end, the study elucidates that there are polivocality in the senses and meanings of the monuments, that is, several interpretations can be conferred to the same symbolic form, as well as it concludes that the buildings and registrations on the institutional ground of the Square were designed and produced by the first governor, José Wilson Siqueira Campos, in order to create and maintain their political, religious and identity values in for the future. ; Este estudio tiene como objetivo identificar los significados políticos, religiosos e identitarios atribuidos a los edificios monumentales y las inscripciones en el piso institucional de la Praça dos Girassóis en Palmas, TO. Para eso, las discusiones se centran en el campo de la geografía cultural y las categorías paisaje y territorio. De esta forma, se utiliza un enfoque cualitativo en la interpretación de los datos recolectados, utilizando como metodología de investigación el trabajo de campo, realizado entre 2019 y principios de 2020 y una revisión bibliográfica para explicar las fuentes.
