The purpose of the article is to examine the genesis of geopolitics worldwide and in Belarus. The most significant authors and their concepts that influenced the development of geopolitics are mentioned. The interpretation of some geopolitical concepts and theories by the international community is analyzed. Connections between fundamental works in the sphere of geopolitics and mutual influence of the authors in this very sphere are determined. The Categorical apparatus of geopolitics is examined. The birth of the Belarusian geopolitical thought and its problems are studied. Connections between the Belarusian geopolitical theory and its geopolitical position are analyzed
