نبذة مختصرة : This study undertakes a critical examination of the oral traditions surrounding Mariamman, a prominent deity in the Pudukkottai region. Specifically, this research aims to uncover the cultural exploitation that occurs in the oral narratives and storytelling practices associated with Mariamman. By analyzing the various stories, legends, and myths about Mariamman, this study seeks to expose the power dynamics and cultural hegemonies that shape the representation and interpretation of this deity. Through a critical folkloric approach, this research will examine how dominant cultural narratives and power structures influence the oral traditions of Mariamman, leading to cultural exploitation and marginalization of certain groups. This study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between culture, power, and representation, and to shed light on the ways in which cultural exploitation operates in the context of folk culture and oral traditions.
