نبذة مختصرة : Breast cancer is a common cancer with 58.549 cases reported in France in 2018. In order to detect it early, an organized screening has been put in place. It consists in a mammography performed every two years between age 50 and 74. Our work was focused on the determinants and obstacles to the practice of mammography in targeted women in western Normandy.Questionnaires were distributed in general practice surgeries in “western Normandy”. The main judgement criterion was the achievement of a mammography within two years for women aged between 50 and 74 years old based on different risk factors (age, family history of hormone-dependent cancers, smoking, alcohol consumption or taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the distance between the general practice surgery and the radiology center). Women were asked about the potential barriers to mammography, such as pain, discomfort or dangerousness of such an examination. The secondary objective was to study the determinants of mammography practice outside the age targeted by organized screening. We did not find a statistical difference based on alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, HRT intake or family history, nor on the distance between the surgeries and the radiology center. We showed that women who smoke were less assiduous in the practice of breast screening and we point out that the fear of feeling pain or discomfort during this examination was a barrier to participation in organized screening according to interviewed women.
